[edit]May I ask what is the source for the figures given here for the numbers of Deputies and Senators won by each party? It isn't the BEC, because they haven't given any figures. Adam 08:54, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- They have the list of the elected senators [1] and deputies [2] on the site. Bogdan | Talk 18:12, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thanks for that. Those pages weren't at the BCE site the last time I looked. Adam 00:22, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Next question: the Romanian Parliament website says that the Chamber has 341 members and the Senate has 143 members. Your figures give a Chamber of 332 and a Senate of 137. Who is right? Adam 02:39, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I think that the figures on the Parliament website are the figures of the old parliament. The number of Parliamentarians is changed according to the population. (ie. for each 'x' people there is a Senator and for each 'y' people there is a Deputy). Romania has currently a negative trend on population. Bogdan | Talk 08:41, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I see. Thanks very much. Adam 08:54, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Another question: How did the UDMR contrive to elect a Deputy (Szekely E Levente Csaba) in the Circumscription of Galati with only 413 votes, or 0.14% of the total? Adam 06:58, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- It's because of the redistribution of votes, which is done in order to keep the proportionality of members in the Chamber with the number of votes.
- For example, it can be:
- County 1: (2 deputies - you need 50% for each)
- Party A: 30%
- Party B: 70% - 1 deputy
- County 2: (5 deputies - you need 20% for each)
- Party A: 50% - 2 deputies
- Party B: 50% - 2 deputies
- Now, Party A and B can negotiate the two Deputies left (which takes which), so party A could get a Deputy in County 2, while party B could get one in County 1.
- Probably UDMR got that Deputy by adding fractions of votes from all over the country (outside Transylvania). Bogdan | Talk 09:31, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hmm, I suppose that makes sense. But the UDMR won plenty of seats in its own right in the Hungarian areas, why does it need to be compensated?
Anyway - are we surprised that Basescu appears to have won? Adam 10:44, 13 Dec 2004 (UTC)
