Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Repeated deletion of players from the squad section, even though they are part of the club's UCL squad IronMaximus (talk) 06:47, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason:: Persistent block evasion by Kelowantopdog. Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kelownatopdog. This is about the fourth or fifth time that this article in the last year has been the subject of block evasion by Kelownatopdog. No sooner does the protection expire, then he goes back to his block evasion, so if possible can this article be protected for a lengthy period of time. Thank you for your help and time. --A.S. Reason: Suggest indefinite autoconfirmed protection. Almost every edit to the page for the last four (if not fourteen) years has been vandalism by IPs or new/few-edit accounts, or reverts thereof. As long as the long-running IRL debate (among people who like or dislike warlocks) over what the word 'really means' continues, I see no reason to think on-wiki vandalism will ever stop. Few if any productive edits are made to this page by non-autoconfirmed editors; indeed, other than vandalism and reverts thereof, few edits are made to the page at all (cf. the few differences between 2021, 100 revisions ago, and now). -sche (talk) 01:20, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Hello administrator, I am sorry to bug you, but I just realized that it is likely a former disgruntled employee is a new editor who added a whole paragraph (last paragraph under research) that cited dubious sources to make his personal opinion known. This paragraph includes references to a linkedin post, a medium article, and some other company websites that are not related to the article at hand. The information in that paragraph simply cannot be found via these cited sources and is only known among the current and former employees of Polymathic AI. I hope there is a way to move the article back to its former form before August 2024? Thanks for helping! 173.72.38.219 (talk) 04:05, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

GnocchiFan has made 5,000+ edits this year alone including seven Good Articles. They make extensive use of WMF Library to improve sourcing and prose. I believe they are both an excellent editor and also communicator, evident at sensitive article topics at 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Gender and sexual minorities in the Ottoman Empire. In short, let's reduce NPP backlog by giving them auto-patrolled status. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:11, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Also worth mentioning GnocchiFan created 84 non redirect articles. One article was deleted Sophie Ottaway 8-months ago. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

Seems to be an experienced content creator whose creations are no longer in need of input from NPP. They don't have a clean record of their articles being kept at AfD, but the last deletion was a year and half and 60 articles ago, and looking through a random sampling of their work since then doesn't reveal any major issues. Requesting access for updating census data of highly populated Indian villages in Kerala state and other human settlements on this planet in future. Pachu Kannan (talk) 10:12, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

I would like access to AWB to fix CheckWiki issues more efficiently than I currently do using WPCleaner. I also want to streamline typo fixing as part of WP:TYPO. I understand I have been denied it twice in the recent past, but I strongly believe that I am fit for getting the permission now, as I gained significantly more experience and done more constructive edits. I would like to use AWB's Checkwiki functionality to alter position of references with respect to punctuation and incorrect ISBNs as I am frequently revising pages that need reference issue support; use find and replace for music album title issues; and use AWB for assistance on creating and correcting items and links within categories of music genres, domestic flag information, and public parks. Thank you. Shotgunheist💬 19:49, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to get AWB to improve articles' layouts, correcting Spanish settlement infoboxes, changing IPA-va (deprecated) to IPA|ca-valencia, adding IPA, correcting links, etc. I had AWB rights in the past, however I stopped using Wikipedia due to COVID-19. Now I am fully recovered and would like to carry on improving things here and there. Thank you. Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC) Nuvolet (talk) 20:23, 11 September 2024 (UTC)

Would find this very useful for tedious/repetitive edits. Thanks! Cocobb8 (💬 talk • ✏️ contribs) 15:45, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

My request originates from having performed a page move for disambiguation reasons (Gold Over America Tour → 2021 Gold Over America Tour). Asking for AWB access so that I can now turn the redirect into a disambiguation page and ensure that articles which link to the original name point to the correct page (and for potential similar actions in the future). Planning on going through the caves of the world lists. The biggest change will be "Caves" to "Artificial Caves" for manmade locations, and the secondary change will be adding the "Artificial Caves" tag to manmade location. I believe I have the required tenure and edit count to qualify for the tool. Thanks! Kingsmasher678 (talk) 15:26, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

I've been asked to create talk pages (linking to wikiprojects) for category pages which I have created. This would be easy with AWB (there are a lot of them). Perspicax (talk) 13:37, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

The first edit I reviewed was a BLP violation, and Aoidh said last time it was declined I would suggest slowing down and taking time to show that you can edit constructively in an extremely contentious topic area before making a new request. I'm not terribly impressed. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 00:21, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
I don't see that anything has changed since the last request. Between tripping the edit filter a few times a few hours ago by trying to edit another editor's user page and their behavior elsewhere, I don't think they're ready for XC. I think at minimum they need to show an understanding of consensus (it's not when there's a dispute and one editor agrees with you) and learn to use edit summaries, especially when constantly reverting others (see Tupac Shakur's history) before they make another such request. If they become XC and this behavior carries over to highly contentious topic areas like WP:ARBPIA, they're going to end up getting blocked or sanctioned very quickly. - Aoidh (talk) 05:36, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done – Hi, and thank you for creating an account to edit Wikipedia. Although I fully understand your desire to dive right in, many of our articles are semi-protected because they are controversial, prone to vandalism, or other reasons. As a new editor with few edits, it might be wise to discuss your edits on the article talkpage in order to gain consensus for your edits, and then use {{Edit semi-protected}} to request the edit be performed. I only recommend this until you are used to the challenges of reliable sources, the biographies of living persons policy, and other similar policies. The good news is that fewer than 5 percent of Wikipedia articles are protected; this means that more than 95 percent of the articles can use your help right now!-- Ponyobons mots 23:17, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

File mover

[edit]
I am requesting file mover rights because I have experience in handling and maintaining various file types and I believe my contributions to several files and my various file rename requests as seen in the editing history here showcase my understanding of the naming policy for files. File names are often a decent part of my contributions with film and television-related articles, and carrying out these renames to satisfy naming conventions rather than having to request them every time a file needs to be renamed would prove beneficial in their up-keeping. I would like to request my NPP temporary approval be made permanent. It is currently set to expire on October 3. I initially requested this level of access to learn more about Wikipedia as a whole and take part in the September backlog drive. With the extended access I have learned more about the use of the Twinkle gadget and have requested notification access to article alerts for WikiProjects I participate in. I have worked to increase my participation in AFD and AFC. I have also used the CSD process for articles that meet the speedy deletion guidelines. I have began use of the copyvio process for evaluating pages and started adding links to foreign language articles about the same subject. I have enjoyed the work I have done during this time and hope to be able to continue to help my fellow editors grow knowledge on Wikipedia. Demt1298 (talk) 13:09, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

I occasionally rename new articles to fix poor titles. I also sometimes want to move new articles to draftspace. Generally, neither case needs a redirect for the old title. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:23, 19 September 2024 (UTC)

@GhostInTheMachine: with regards to your first intended use case: you do understand that you're only allowed to suppress the redirect when it would otherwise qualify for a CSD (in this case, probably WP:R3), right? Just being a somewhat bad title isn't enough to suppress. Elli (talk | contribs) 15:08, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
Understood. This would be limited to really clear typos. Keeping the redirect has value in many/most other cases. — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 16:49, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

I frequently make/request moves – usually either making titles WP:CONCISE, or draftifying/fixing typos in titles as part of WP:NPP. I would like to be able to handle more of these myself, including WP:R2 suppression, but especially WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA pageswaps. These usually require updating the categories afterward, which will be much easier if I'm doing the pageswap myself, rather than remembering to come back once my request at WP:RM/T is carried out. Speaking of which, I've really appreciated WP:RM/T, and if I'm granted the pagemover right I intend to "give back" by handling requests there. jlwoodwa (talk) 01:09, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

I've been doing RC Patrolling (as a part of Anti-Vandalism) on Wikipedia for a while now, and I think that having the Pending Changes reviewer permission could be a good idea - there have been numerous instances involving a pending changes edit that I look at while looking through Special:RecentChanges that i wanted to accept/deny/etc, and i feel that this permission would be beneficial for my efficeincy. @Fastily sorry. can spend a month on October 10, 2024? †TyphoonAmpil† (💬 - 📝 - 🌀 - Tools) 07:16, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

I am active on English Wikipedia, primarily editing articles related to Sri Lanka. During the recent presidential election, I encountered multiple instances of vandalism and disruptive editing on related pages, necessitating the reversion of several edits along with sucessful requests for page protection. However, resolving these issues proved challenging due to edit conflicts, which prevented a simple undo and required manual corrections that were both tedious and time-consuming. Given the contentious nature of the period and the number of significant upcoming events, I would appreciate being granted rollback rights to better combat vandalism and disruptive editing. QEnigma (talk) 08:33, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

Not done You don't need rollback to undo inappropriate edits. If you're still interested in this tool then please spend at least a month actively patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are consistently warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 05:17, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

I rely on mobile scripts for this purpose, but they occasionally fail to function properly. Obtaining rollback rights would enable me to manage these issues more efficiently. Thanks. –𝐎𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐬 𝐀𝐥 𝐐𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢 ʕʘ̅͜ʘ̅ʔ 01:27, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
